SAMIR N. BANOOB

Dr Banoob is an International Consultant in Health Systems and Professor of  Health Policy
and Management.

He is the President of International Health management, LLC. since 1986, a consulting firm in
Florida, leading international health projects and training scholars from more than 70
countries.

He served as a full time Professor of Health Policy and Management, and Director of the
International Health Management Programs at the College of Public Health, University of
South Florida for 20 years (1983-2002), and is a founding member of this graduate college
that serves the whole State of Florida.

He was elected as President of its Faculty Assembly, member of the University Senate,
Florida faculty Union, and received the University Professorial Excellence Award in
teaching research and service in 1998. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Health policy,
management & Behavior, School of Public Health, University AT Albany, State University of
New York.

He was appointed in 2005 as the founding Dean & Professor, Graduate School of Global
Health Development, (part- time), European Center for Peace & Development, United
Nations University for Peace, Belgrade, Serbia.

He obtained his M.D. degree, received Diplomat of Internal Medicine, Master's Degree in
Public Health majoring in Hospital Administration, and Doctorate Degree in Public Health
majoring in Health Planning and Management, from the University of Alexandria, Egypt.

He then received postgraduate education at Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public
Health, and training at the National Center for Health Statistics and Health Services
Research, and the Centers for Disease Control in the US.

He held senior level clinical, administrative, and academic positions in health systems,
projects and hospitals in Egypt and the Middle East; then an adjunct professor position at
Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health 1980-1992.

He served as Chair of the American Public Health Association International Health Section,
and member of its Governing Council and International Committee on Human Rights. He
received the Association Distinguitshed Service Award in 1997. He is an active member of
the World Federation of Public Health Associations.

Dr. Banoob serves as a consultant and adviser on major health projects (in 76 countries to
date) in East, Central, and West Europe; the Middle East; Caribbean and Central America;
Africa, Asia, and the US; consulting with The World Health Organization and its regional
offices, UNICEF, World Bank, UNDP, the United States Agency for International
Development, Inter American Development Bank, governments of the Arab Gulf Countries,
State of Florida Department of Health, the Health Planning Council and hospitals and health
organizations in Florida.

The major areas of expertise of Dr. Banoob are:

  • Graduate education in health administration and public health, including needs
    assessment, curriculum development, institutional development and governance and
    teaching graduate courses and senior management training.
  • Planning, organization, and evaluation of National Health systems, including health
    reform, health insurance and alternatives of financing, and privatization/ public private
    partnership.
  • Planning, management and evaluation of health projects; including private-public
    partnership and managed care, disease control, emergency medical systems and disaster
    preparedness, elderly care and long term care, and primary care / family planning.
  • Hospital development, modernization, and quality improvement/ management of health
    institutions.
